Google has created a fantastic tool to search for flights in Google Flights. Because of its great features and easy interface, we recommend using Google Flights as a starting point for almost any flight search. You can compare flight prices using dates and visuals to make it easier than ever before to find discount flights on your own. Use these quick tips with your next flight search and you could save hundreds of dollars on your next flight.
Tip: Use the calendar on Google Flights for the best pricing
When you start your search on Google Flights, pay close attention to the calendar. Under each day, they show you the price. In this example, you can see prices ranging from $326 to as low as $210, for a savings of $116 per ticket! With this tip, your dates have to be flexible.
It's good to keep in mind that moving your flight days around, even by just a day or two on either end, can save you a ton of money. With this visual calendar on Google Flights, the trip length is the same for every item. In the example above, look at the price on the 23rd of June and the 25th of June. It's $211 on the 23rd vs $266 on the 25th, or a savings of $55 per ticket if you can travel two days earlier. If you're able to shift your schedule by two days to depart and return two days earlier, you'll save a ton. A family of four utilizing this savings method can save $220 on their trip!
Tip: Use Google Flights to track prices for flight email alerts
Not ready to book? Need more time? Don't feel alone. Not everyone can drop hundreds of dollars on a flight on their first search. Luckily, with Google Flights you are able to get alerted of price changes for your selected itinerary.
Simply enter your departure and arrival city, as well as dates and then check the “Track Prices” box. They will automatically send you an alert any time the prices go up or down for your flight. There’s no need to keep searching for a lower price. Google Flights will let you know automatically. We've found these alerts to be extremely valuable for clients who are willing to wait to find a better price on a trip.
Tip: Use the visual graph to find the best price on Google Flights
This tip is great for the visual observers out there. Simply click “Price Graph” on any search page on Google flights and from there start clicking around! Move the slider left and right, and you will instantly see visually where the best price is. In this example, we find a deal to Hong Kong that was initially $1,188 for just over $400, which is a savings of $700 per ticket!
This tool is extremely helpful for those of us who can have flexible dates on our trip. If you're thinking "I wish I could go to Paris, but I have a $500 flight budget" then this tool can help you find the dates and flights that work for you. Click around on Google Flights to find the best deals, and before you know it you'll be a cheap flight wizard.
